Traditional
Thai Massage is over 2500 years old and can be traced back to India
during the Buddha’s lifetime, before it was used by monks
in the Thai temples for rejuvenating both mind and body in conjunction
with meditation and the use of herbs.
As we grow older, we all stiffen up a little and this can cause
problems such as poor circulation and muscle pain, quickly leading
to stress. The therapist will use a range of techniques which could
include hands, feet, forearms or elbow to apply pressure to the
sen (energy lines) with the aim of unblocking stagnant and trapped
energy and to encourage the body’s own natural forces to flow
easily and free tensions. Gentle muscle stretching will increase
flexibility and will improve circulation, posture, joint mobility,
energy levels and also our sleep patterns.
Thai Massage is often carried out on the floor on a mat (although
I prefer here in the UK to use a specially designed massage bed)
and you have the option to remain fully clothed in loose comfortable
clothing. The massage session usually starts with the feet with
the therapist continues up the body working on the whole body.
Carried out correctly, Thai Massage will give you an active workout
and leave you feeling more supple calmer, more alive and carefree.
